CEO Library Interview

The CEO Library is an amazing idea - interviewing CEOs and founders, but not about their apps. Instead, they ask about reading habits - what do you read, what books made a difference in your life, and what books do you recommend to others? There is even the occasional piece of advice in there:

I’d recommend reading anything that helps develop your ability to understand and solve a problem. Triaging issues by importance and properly identifying their causes is critical in almost every aspect of business. Without that, you can easily spend a lot of time on the wrong problem, or an ineffective solution, and your time is, more or less, your most valuable commodity.

I really enjoyed this interview, and in the process revisiting some dusty bookshelves. In the age of the ebook and the Kindle, where you can carry a million books with you wherever you go, it's easy to lose the pleasure a physical book collection brings. Nostalgia is harded to indulge in on a Kindle, I think.

It's hard to carve out time to read with a growing family. At least, to read books without pictures in them. I have to thank Christina and the CEO Library - doing this interview reminded me that reading isn't always explicitly about learning or traction or personal growth. Sometimes, it's important to escape, so I'm off to the Discworld again.

I'll leave you with this quote from my favourite author, the late great Terry Pratchett:

A good bookshop is just a genteel Black Hole that knows how to read.
